Our Fountain Espresso team is looking for Baristas that are willing to exceed our guests’ expectations by using their God-given talents by getting their hands dirty in chocolate, coffee and other ingredients. . You can expect to prepare drink recipes, answer guest coffee and drink questions and help guests pair the right pastry selections with their drinks. 


The Barista is a Non-Ministerial position. Non-ministerial staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to affirm Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision and beliefs. It is desired that staff who fill these roles are followers of Jesus Christ and embrace MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. However, if they are not a follower of Jesus Christ, they are expected in the course of their employment to abide by MHA’s Christian Standards of Conduct and respect, work in harmony with, and not undermine MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. All staff join into our community life of prayer, worship and spiritual activity, including but not limited to staff meetings, attendance at programs, Bible Study, and staff gatherings.


The ideal candidate will have a growing relationship with Jesus or will be willing to work in accordance with the MHA values. This position is for the person who loves working in team settings, has a sweet tooth, and would like to grow in your culinary or ministry career.

Position Objective:

The Barista is responsible for consistently delivering quality espresso beverages, coffee and snacks at the Espresso Cart, the Fountain, and other retail locations, for all customers while adhering to health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, with the goal of providing outstanding guest service, in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.



Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Provide excellent service (fast, friendly, safe, efficient) in the Espresso Cart and the Fountain to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Welcome and care for all customers respectfully and cheerfully.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and team members ensuring accurate orders and transactions.
  • Present products in the most appealing manner by following standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating, and storing products to ensure timely use.
  • Utilize upselling techniques to boost sales.
  • Perform cleaning tasks in accordance with the duty rosters and cleaning standards to maintain a high level of facility cleanliness.
  • Follow cash register policies, inventory stocking, and recording guidelines to maintain accurate records and ensure inventory is on hand as needed.
  • Follow stated open and closing procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.


Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • None.



  • At least two years of high school.

Work Experience:


  • At least 6 months' related experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to serve all customers and work alongside team members with a respectful, pleasant and courteous manner.
  • Ability to learn how to prepare coffee and espresso beverages in a clean, sanitary, orderly manner.
  • Ability to use a cash register and make accurate cash and credit transactions.
  • Ability to take directions and complete tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to take initiative to learn and improve.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work in slightly congested conditions around hot machinery.
  • Requires standing for extended periods of time, squatting, twisting, and the ability to lift/carry 30 lbs.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have a valid California Food Handler’s Card.
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • May be requested to work for special program events.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays along with a flexible schedule.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
