The  is a Non-Ministerial position. Non-ministerial staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to affirm MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. Our Assistant Baker position will be someone who is looking to exceed our guests expectations by using their God-given talents by getting their hands dirty in chocolate, flour and other preparation ingredients. You can expect to portion, plate and prepare delicious pastries, donuts,

Position Objective

The Assistant Baker will support the Lead Baker and Food Services & Culinary Director in ensuring that baked products are prepared according to recipes and are ready and properly served at scheduled times, to offer, along with the rest of the Food Service Team, ensuring an excellent overall dining experience for our guests in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities

  • Follow the production schedule of the bakery as well as maintain organizational product standards for taste and appearance to present guests with fresh, delicious and appealing baked goods.
  • Follow BEO menus and distribute in a timely manner and in the right quantities.
  • Follow recipes, which includes computing basic mathematical conversions to increase/decrease production for size needs to ensure the balance between having enough product for a meal and to limit waste.
  • Coordinate prep, set-up baking with the service of products for breakfast, lunch, dinner, breaks and specials in accordance with standards and plating specifications to limit hindering other staff in the completion of their duties and to work together as a coordinated team.
  • Replenish buffet items and serve guests when needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

High School Graduation or equivalent.

No experience necessary.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated competence making good judgment concerning taste, palatability, and aesthetics of food quality.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Adaptable, self motivated, with a high energy level.
  • Ability to communicate in English with other team members, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good communications skills; ability to work well with others and maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor.
  • Possess a cooperative spirit with management and desire to learn and improve their work.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and move around the majority of the workday.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to use a variety of kitchen tools, equipment and utensils, including sharp objects.
  • Ability to see, hear and speak.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends along with a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to become ServSafe Certified.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
