The Kitchen Assistant position is responsible for helping our Chefs and cooks while we serve our guests. This looks like organizing and cleaning the kitchen and equipment, gathering ingredients, preparing foods and serving our guests as needed.
Ideal candidates will have a great disposition, and a hunger to learn.


The Kitchen Assistant is a Non-Ministerial position. Non-ministerial staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to affirm MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. It is desired that staff who fill these roles are followers of Jesus Christ and embrace MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. However, if they are not a follower of Jesus Christ, they are expected in the course of their employment to abide by MHA’s Christian Standards of Conduct and respect, work in harmony with, and not undermine MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs.


All staff join into our community life of prayer, worship and spiritual activity, including but not limited to staff meetings, attendance at programs, Bible Study, and staff gatherings.

Position Objective:

The Kitchen Assistant will clean dishes, equipment and kitchen area as needed, and assist the cooks with food preparation and food service as needed, to offer high quality food products and service to Conference Center guests in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Set up dish machine for the day.
  • Maintain clean water flow through machine by cleaning screens as often as needed.
  • Clean kitchen floors and equipment as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Keep the dish area clean by sweeping, mopping floors, wiping countertops, and emptying trash after each meal.
  • Occasionally assist during meal periods in food serving or catering assisting.
  • Fill out cleaning logs.
  • Assist in the kitchen during lag time with food prep for next day.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None



  • High school graduation or equivalent.

Work Experience:

  • No experience necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of operating a dish machine preferred.
  • Ability to properly replace/refill all cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently.
  • Ability to communicate in English.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and move around the majority of the workday, squat, lift and carry loads using hands and arms for repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work safely around dish machine and chemicals.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors as needed, with hot temperatures and cold temperatures. 


Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work days, evenings and weekends along with a flexible schedule.
  • Must have a valid California Food Handler’s Card.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
