  • Overview

    Casual Part-Time 0-40 Hours Weekly 


    Position Objective:


    The Teacher is responsible for helping to care for pre-school children and supporting the pre-school teachers in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


    Key Job Accountabilities:

    • Work together with the teachers and staff as needed to maintain a safe and secure environment.
    • Maintain a clean and orderly environment by cleaning classrooms and bathrooms daily.
    • Prepare snacks and lunches for children.
    • Assist in planning, preparing and executing the daily learning activities.
    • Be accountable for all children at all times.
    • Use industry standards and approved techniques for classroom management.
    • Use industry standards for personal hygienic practices.
    • Take responsibility for specific areas of the program.
    • Use “Positive Discipline” techniques such as redirection with the children as needed.
    • Attend mandatory staff trainings.
    • Other duties as assigned by Master Teacher or Director.

    • Parent Volunteers
    • Assistant Teachers


    General Qualifications:


    A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity.  



    • Completion of 12 ECE core Early Childhood Education or Child Development classes/coursework.
    • Current certifications in Infant/Pediatric CPR, First Aid and verification of the 15-hour CPR/First Aid, Health and Safety training requirement.

    Work Experience:


    • 2 years’ documented experience with pre-school children (50 days of 3+ hours per day within 2 years).


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


    • Familiarity with “Positive Discipline” techniques.
    • Aptitude for and interest in working with children.
    • Strong sense of safe practices when working with children.
    • Ability to effectively facilitate conflict resolution with children.
    • Ability to care for basic hygienic needs of children.
    • Ability to provide cleaning for facilities.
    • Ability to take direction and learn about the program from other teachers.
    • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
    • Excellent verbal communications skills with both children and staff.

    Key Job Accountabilities

    Physical Demands:


    • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
    • Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting.
    • Ability to lift/carry pre-school children, up to 40 needed.  
    • Requires the ability to speak English, see and hear.

    Additional Requirements:


    • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
    • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
    • Must provide documentation of current immunizations of measles, pertussis and TB.
    • Must provide transcripts of college work, seminars, extra training, etc.
    • Must be fingerprinted by Live Scan.
    • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
