Seasonal Part-Time 0-40 hours weekly - Ministerial



Position Objectives:


The One-on-One Student Aide/Child Care Assistant position has joint responsibilities to provide a consistent, stable, and supportive environment for children in the Child Care facility  and, when needed, to act as the assistant/primary caretaker for children and students 0-18 years old with any cognitive, emotional, or physical special needs that greatly inhibit or prohibit them from participating in camp activities as well as enabling them to participate and experience camp as best suited for them, all in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.  


Key Job Accountabilities:


  • Assist children with physical mobility.
  • Care for basic hygienic needs.
  • Support children with participation in group activities.
  • Give complete attention to the children in the Child Care Center: help entertain, ensure safe play, and facilitate conflict resolution between children. Note: The Child Care Assistant is NOT expected, nor permitted, to change a child’s diaper, assist a child on the toilet, answer parents’ questions or concerns, be responsible for clean up at the end of a session, nor be alone in a room with a child.
  • Provide clear and open communication with parents regarding their child/children’s well-being, with special attention to health, safety and discipline.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas, including workspaces and supplies, clean and orderly.
  • Help provide a consistent, stable, safe, and supportive environment for the children in their care so that they may experience camp as best suited to the child’s abilities.
  • Assist a child with special needs. This responsibility demands 1-1 assistance. In this case, the Assistant will accompany only special needs child throughout the session, helping them to join the group when possible, and offering alternative activities for that child when necessary.
  • Engage the students in custom activities when unable to participate with the rest of the group.
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor.

General Qualifications:


The One-on-On Student Aide/Childcare Counselor is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs.  They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. 





  • CPR/First Aid

Work Experience:


  • Experience working with or caring for children.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, without supervision, and make choices in the best interest of child.
  • Ability to be on-call and report for work with short notice.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with child, his/her guardians, and supervisor.
  • Must feel comfortable working with and around individuals with social, cognitive, or physical special needs.
  • Ability to be calm, responsible, resourceful, kind, trustworthy, reliable, and have a genuine love for and interest in working with children.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.


Physical Demands:


  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in a variety of elements (hot/cold, dry/wet, day/night).
  • Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, swimming, running, climbing, pulling, pushing.
  • Ability to lift/carry minimum of 25 lbs.

  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
