Position Objective:

 

The Laundry Attendant supports the Accommodations Department in the goal of providing clean, tidy, well-maintained accommodations for our guests by providing a constant supply of clean towels, blankets and pillows and other items in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

 

  • Process all soiled hotel bed linens, towels while operating all laundry/cleaning machinery in accordance to hotel standards.
  • Report maintenance issues or equipment failure promptly to Accommodations Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Report all inventory needs (chemicals) for processing laundry service to Accommodations Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Replace 5-gallon drums of laundry chemicals when necessary.
  • Ensure lint traps are cleaned regularly and in accordance with laundry procedures.
  • Follow instructions for washing, drying and folding laundry in accordance with documented  

procedures.

  • Adhere to all departmental safety procedures and report any safety violations immediately.
  • Cross train for room cleaning and assist when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.

 

Work Experience:


Prior experience processing laundry in a commercial setting preferred.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of Mount Hermon layout, units and cabin locations helpful.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.  
  • Knowledge of safe and proper chemical handling and proper use of equipment.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, requirements and use of equipment and knowledge of proper and safe chemical handling.
  • Ability to how to mend things with a sewing machine or needle and thread.
  • Ability to maintain departmental standards, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English (speak, read, write) with guests, co-workers and management to their understanding.   

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:


  • Endurance to do physically demanding work, ability to kneel, squat, climb stairs.
  • Constant standing required throughout shift.
  • Ability to exert physical effort in the movement of bundles of soiled/cleaned bed linens, terry, etc. into/out of laundry machines.  
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., bend, stoop, carry, push or pull heavy loads up to 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to endure working area of high temperatures with accumulations of lint.
  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
 

Additional Requirements/Skills:

 

  • Ability to work weekends and holidays during the summer.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
